Today in labor history, August 3, 1981: Members of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) go on strike for a shorter work week, increased wages, and better working conditions. Newly elected President Ronald Reagan threatened to fire anyone who didn’t return to work within 48 hours. Most stayed out and on August 5, Reagan fired more than 11,000 workers.
And after Douche Reagan fired the professionals, the airlines hired non-union air traffic controllers and planes began falling from the sky:
Sahil Kapura has compiled this annotated list of Scalia’s favorite words to use while talking about the Affordable Care Act, echoing lines of attack more likely to be found on a conservative blog or a RNC email blast.
This scumbag was appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1986. This is why voting is SO important. Whoever is elected ends up influencing our lives long after they have left office. And in the case of Ronald Reagan, even long after they are dead. Mitt Romney will appoint a scumbag like Scalia to represent the 1%.
Little known fact: Fox News is banned in Canada because of Canada’s Radio Act which prohibits a licenser from broadcasting misleading and false news.
Canada’s Radio Act requires that “a licenser may not broadcast….any false or misleading news.” The provision has kept Fox News and right wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the “Fairness Doctrine” in 1987.
